Saint Andrew’s Calendar

Devotional Word….

Just in Time is our theme these days of Advent. Taking time is the challenge for most of us in busy times of holiday plans and reunions. I have sensed both joy and peace as we have shared worship on Sunday, especially in the singing of the hymn “Wait for the Lord.” The tune has been my pathway song for each of these days. And, as we wait for the Lord, the pace of the season begins to slow to what I am learning to call metronomic speed, like the heart beat at rest.

Then, I think of Mary and those days of waiting. The first sensing of baby’s heartbeat. What is the feeling of joy and perhaps of anxious anticipation? Imagine the comfort Mary shared in her days with Elizabeth, the mother of John we know as the Baptist.

In these next days, I have taken Mary’s Song, Luke 1:46-56, as my daily focus. Imagine the conversations she was able to have with her family and friends. With that song in her heart.

As we move forward to Christmas Eve, we will also keep the Fourth Sunday of Advent, December 24, with a 9:30 am service focusing on serenity in face of the new day when we remember and celebrate again the birth of Jesus, Emmanuel, God with us.

I am grateful for this time in which we have shared love in gift for both the global and local witness of the Church. The number of gifts which will be received in the name of Saint Andrew’s Lutheran Church where we are growing too as we listen, learn and dream.

Had any dreams lately? I have and know that the best dream of all is the one fulfilled in the faith of Mary, the trust of Jesus, and in the birth of Jesus. The one in whom the hopes and fears of all the years have met at manger, at Cross, at Empty Tomb.

Can’t wait to sing “Joy to the World,” but for the time being we wait on the Lord.
