Saint Andrew’s Calendar

Devotional Word…..

“Pastor Jim, I have a quick question” is an ask I often hear. I usually respond, “Good, I have a long answer!”

We live in an age of “quick and efficient” communication. From social media chat in a variety of ways, passing comments. We often long for just a longer, eye to eye, heart to heart conversation that is not time bound. Yet, even Twitter has moved from 140 to 280 characters. A bridge to deeper communication.

Questions are important. Council often asks “Why?” A recent article in the Harvard Business Review is titled “The Surprising Power of Questions.” The premise is that too often we ask for information, statistics, plans without asking deeper questions. The old Socratic Method of teaching. “Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding.” (Alison Wood Brooks and Leslie K. John)

Jesus was good at asking questions: “But, who do you say that I am?” And Pilate asked the ultimate one with “What is truth?” Good questions build up the conversation that the Holy Spirit often uses. What do you think?

I have one more question for you. “Where is your growth place in your life in Christ?” Let’s talk about it! My first response will be a question: “How may I be helpful?”
