Saint Andrew’s Calendar

Devotional Word…..

The Day of Pentecost is always a day of remembering that Jesus never leaves His own alone in the world. That trust was very present last Sunday as we gathered to claim again the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Here seems the point to remember for me: those who first responded to the call to “Follow” Jesus could have given up time and again. After all, His words called to total, “no holds barred” commitment. And like each of us, there are times when the mountain to climb seems way too high.

The Chancel Choir anthem, “Holy Spirit, Living Breath of God“ was a call to live into the future on the first foundation of Jesus, the One who forgives and renews the family of God in every single way. That means then AND today. They never looked back for the old ways, but lived adaptively in the face of every moment of change. May it be so for us in the Time of Pentecost as we grow forward into the new day of life God has for us.

The words of that anthem mark for me, for us, a place of focus throughout the summer and into the fall, where God will welcome us to a continuing season of being faithful to our calling, as individuals and a congregation, to keep our eyes on Jesus and to walk, to serve in his love.
