Saint Andrew’s Calendar

Devotional Word…..

“In our prayers for you we always thank God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
for we have heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and the love that you have for all the saints, because of the hope laid up for you in heaven.”
(Colossians 1:3-5a NRSV)

Tuesday Morning Bible Study has begun a three week series on the parallel verses in many of Paul’s letters. We will read in the next week his Thanksgiving words to 6 of the congregations who received his words in writing.

One thing that we were amazed at was the way he began each letter, even to congregations with issues which may have seemed overwhelming. He began each with a graceful greeting and with thanksgiving.

In time when tones can often be harsh and abrupt in our culture, the people of God in Christ can set a clear example of how each human exchange might well begin with words of thanksgiving. It just sets the right way for us to be in conversation, enfolding each other in loving ways, with uplifting words and actions.

I encourage you to join me in reading each of the following over the next six days: Romans 1:8-12, 1 Corinthians 1:4-9, Philippians 1:3-11, Colossians 1:3-12, I Thessalonians 2-10, and 2 Thessalonians 1:3-12. It is good to note that these words span Paul’s entire mission and ministry as an ambassador of Christ.

Paul’s words may be an important cue to how we witness to the loving ways of Jesus in conversation and in life. Let us be molded in a spirit of thanksgiving, thanks-living.
