Saint Andrew’s Calendar

Devotional Word…..

“And (Jesus) took them up in his arms, laid his hands on them, and blessed them.” (Mark 10:16)

Children are a blessing. It is the place of the Church to provide both the safety and security to ensure the health and the promise held within the life of each boy and girl. Jesus taught that and led the earliest Church to be a safe haven, especially for women, children, and those who had no mentors and guides in an often hostile culture.

Years ago, Saint Andrew’s was branded as a “Safe Place” by our Congregation Council at the recommendation of our Outreach and Servant Ministries Committee. One of the first faith communities so branded in partnership with Friends of Youth, an agency involved in the support of families and children. As a “Safe Place,” a child who appears on our campus unsheltered is assured of a place within a short period of time. Other “Safe Places” include Metro Buses, King Co.Libraries, and most Emergency Rooms.

From birth to Font to growing lives, we commit to ensure an enfolding for all of God’s children. It is in the vital connection to family that we find the ability to thrive in every phase of our life.

Family Separation, in any form, threatens, first of all, those whom Jesus held and blessed. The calling of the Church, in the name of Jesus, is to be bold in securing all God’s children that they might know the gift of peace, love, and safety.

For, in the words of Paul, “(God) destined us for adoption as his children through Jesus Christ.” (Ephesians 1:5a). As God’s own beloved ones, we are called to pray for and to act for the children of the world and their families.
