December 27, 2018 ….. a year-end Thursday edition

Saint Andrew’s Calendar

Devotional Word…..

From Heaven Above

"From heav'n above to earth I come to bear good news to ev'ry home!
Glad tidings of great joy I bring to all the world, and gladly sing:"

"To you this night is born a child of Mary, chosen virgin mild;
this newborn child of lowly birth shall be the joy of all the earth."

"This is the Christ, God's Son most high, who hears your sad and bitter cry,
who will himself your Savior be and from all sin will set you free."

Ah, dearest Jesus, holy child, prepare a bed, soft, undefiled,
a quiet chamber in my heart, that you and I may never part.

My heart for very joy now leaps; my voice no longer silence keeps;
I too must sing with joyful tongue the sweetest ancient cradle-song:

"Glory to God in highest heav'n, who unto us the Son has giv'n."
With angels sing in pious mirth a glad new year to all the earth!.

Martin Luther’s Christmas text is actually 15 verses. Too long for most of us to sing in one service, but can be read as an end of year, new year devotion. Especially in time of seasonal change, transition as a congregation, and as a reminder that God is always with us in all things.

I commend you read it, pray it, sing it, and know that when the prayers of each day begin in thanksgiving they easily can end in praise.

Pastor McEachran

Outreach
· MGLSS Uniforms: Each year we have the privilege to clothe 50 students at the Maasae Girls Lutheran Secondary School (MGLSS) in Monduli, Tanzania. See the display in the Narthex/Commons and consider outfitting a girl on her educational journey. A gift of $50 provides a uniform for 2 years. Place cash or check in the envelope provided and put it in the offering plate OR send a check to Saint Andrew’s Lutheran Church, noting “MGLSS UNIFORMS” on the memo line.
· Socks and Knit Hats for Compass Housing Alliance: Dorcas Circle is collecting new white socks and warm hats for Compass Housing Alliance. Donations can be placed in the “Sox Box” in the Narthex/Commons. If you have any questions, contact Linda Willenberg.

2019 Commitments
Thank you to all who have submitted your 2019 financial pledge. We have received 129 pledges totaling $544,002. Financial support carries God’s work in mission and ministry forward, and pledges are very helpful as we complete financial planning for 2019. Commitment/Pledge cards can be found in the Narthex. You can also submit your pledge online.

Join the Sunday Servers Team: If you typically attend the 11:00 am worship service, please consider volunteering to be an usher, greeter, or lector. The need is greatest for ushers! We welcome new volunteers for the 8:30 am service too. Please contact Fellowship Coordinator Sherry Grindeland, sherry@salchome.org or 425-746-2529.
